Our Concept
Mataven Fishing is Colombia's first sport fishing operation developed through a strategic alliance between the Mataven Deiyu Indigenous Association (Piaroa ethnicity), the Etnollano Foundation, and a private company. After three years without fishing activity, we reopened operations with recovered fish populations, low fishing pressure, and limited quotas. The result: fishing excellence with maximum exclusivity.
Exclusive Location
Mataven Fishing is located in the heart of the Matavén Rainforest, one of Colombia's most remote and best-preserved regions. Situated in the Vichada Department, between the Amazon and Orinoco basins, the territory features pristine lagoons and tropical forests protected by ancestral indigenous communities. This combination of geographic isolation, rigorous conservation, and cultural richness creates Colombia's finest Peacock Bass populations and transforms Mataven into a unique destination for those seeking far more than a fishing expedition.

Where is the Mataven Fishing Lodge located?
The lodge is located in La Urbana, in the heart of the Matavén Jungle, in the department of Vichada, Colombia. It is one of the most remote and biodiverse regions of the Colombian Amazon, offering exclusive access to more than 100 km (124 miles) of rivers and pristine lagoons.
Getting to the Lodge
Your experience begins with a 1 hour and 15 minute flight from Bogotá to Inírida. Upon arrival, our team will welcome you and accompany you during the approximately 3-hour boat transfer to Matavén Fishing Lodge.
During your journey along the Matavén River, you will enjoy refreshing beverages while admiring the region's spectacular landscapes. Upon arriving at the lodge, you will be welcomed with a welcome drink and a brief expedition briefing. You will then settle into your premium cabins to enjoy dinner before beginning your fishing experience the next day.
Which Fish Species Will I Encounter?
The star species is the Peacock Bass, with specimens exceeding 20-25 pounds. You will also encounter Yamu, Bagre, Sardinata, Payara, Agujeto, Mataguaro, and Moncholo, depending on the season and fishing area.
Lodge Accommodation
We receive only 6 to 8 anglers per week to guarantee exclusivity and privacy.
Comfortable cabins with private bathroom, fan, and mosquito netting. Complimentary daily laundry service.
All-inclusive meals: breakfast, lunch on the river, and dinner. Non-alcoholic snacks and beverages available throughout the day. Starlink satellite internet and continuous power via solar generator.
Anglers Per Boat
Each boat is staffed with a dedicated team: an expert sport fishing guide and an operator.

Is Prior Fishing Experience Required?
It is not required, though we do recommend basic experience in fly fishing or lure casting to maximize your expedition. Our indigenous guides, with decades of experience in these activities, know the territory perfectly and guide anglers of all skill levels.
Best Season for Fishing
The fishing season runs from January to April, with February and March being peak months, featuring optimal water levels and the highest fish concentrations. Weekly quotas are limited to guarantee exclusivity and sustainability.
Travel Itinerary to the Lodge
8 days / 7 nights. Day 0: arrival in Bogotá. Day 1: flight to Inírida and transfer to the lodge. Days 2-7: six full days of fishing. Day 8: return to Bogotá.
Social and Environmental Impact
We are Colombia's first fishing operation established in direct alliance with the Piaroa indigenous community. Our model ensures that economic benefits remain within the community, the territory is protected by its ancestral guardians, and all activities adhere to strict environmental and scientific sustainability standards.
Duration of a Standard Expedition
The standard program is 8 days / 7 nights, with 6 full days of fishing. Day 0 is arrival in Bogotá, Day 1 is transfer to the lodge, Days 2-7 are fishing in the territory, and Day 8 is return to Bogotá.
What Fishing Methods Do You Use?
We practice a strict Catch & Release model. We operate with fly fishing, spinning, and casting — all under the requirement that fish extraction is not permitted. This principle is fundamental to conserving the ecosystem and ensuring healthy fish populations for future seasons.
